G12 and the Shepherding Movement
thank you for your observations. i have attended the adaptation G12, particularly the processof EGR (Encounter God Retreat). It raised many questions out of my mind and spirit concerning its biblical foundations. Actually, it was earlier on the Pre-Meg encounter that I already have raised questions to myself particularly it almost out of context outlook on the bible passages used. I have asked our leader to change the content of the sermons, to do away with what the G12 materials. Since I am a pastor and secretary of the group, I was one of the preachers. I have tried to preach as sound as I could as well as other preachers to some extent that we preach the doctrine of entire sanctification in place of the baptism with the Holy Spirit, we even show portions of Mel Gibsons’ Passion of the Christ. What I am uneasy about is it seems to contradict to the Gospel. It seems to me its going back to the Old testament laws in new forms (adaptation to fit in present day context). I mean the strict adherence to house rules, strict discipleship and leadership accountability. High regard to the authourity ladder in the group. High regard in the Holy Spirit working not in the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses us from all sins. In contrast to the Gospel where in we response to God in simple faith like that of a child, while even our adaptation, you have to labor and check out all thouse sins, generational curses handed down to you, declare warfare against all the evil spirits- represented by actual sins christians are doing. One of the rigid requirements is that before a delegate can attend the retreat, one must be sure that he is a Christian, that is why theres need to be a pre-meg encounter, however in the EGR you are treated like a non-christian by what is being preach to you and what is required for you to do. Now how do you reconcile all this with II Corinthians 5:17 that says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things become new.” NKJV In Gal 3:13-14 it also says, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” NIV. When we become Christians we become new creation, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming curse for us. it seems to me another Gospel at all, going back to OT, from the law from which Jesus Christ as redeemed us.
What can you say in the light of God’s written Word, our standard for faith and pratice, about this movement and its adoptation/ adaption?Comment Posted By Jose Elmo Dialing On 29.08.2006 @ 22:04
